Adding Special Case for a Tax Zone

There are countries and sub-national units where the tax rate is different from the one assigned by the algorithm. For example, the rate of VAT tax in Greece varies from 4.5% to 23%; that is, a particular tax zone should be assigned depending on the country region instead of assigning default tax zone for the country. To handle this scenario, a special case can be added which overrides the tax zone assignment algorithm.

To add a special case for a tax zone:

  1. In Billing control panel, go to System > Settings > Taxation > Tax Zones and Tax Categories > Tax Zone Assignment Rules tab. The name of tax calculation algorithm that is currently in use is displayed at the top of the screen. The list of configured special taxation cases (if any) is shown.
  2. Click Create Special Case. The adding new special case form is displayed. Fill out the form:
    • Click next to the Country field. From the window that opens, select the country you want to add a special taxation case.
    • If needed, select state or province for this country. Click next to the State / Province field. From the window that opens select state or province.
    • Select the tax zone you have prepared for this special taxation case from the Tax Zone list.
  3. Click Save.
