Global Address Lists

During provisioning the Exchange hosting, CloudBlue Commerce creates the Global Address List (GAL) where addresses of Exchange organization members are automatically included. The GAL is located on the Exchange server. You can open the GAL in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or in another mail service compatible with Exchange any time the mail service is online.

The GAL will contain only those of your Exchange items (mailboxes, contacts, public folders or distribution lists) that have the Show in address book option marked as Yes. By default, the Show in Address Book option is turned on for every newly created object.

Remember that if the Show in address book option is off (Exchange item is not visible in the organization GAL) and Outlook access is enabled, Outlook client setup fails and the failure is marked with the following:

  • After you click Submit at mailbox creation or editing mailbox properties, the following message appears:

Warning: You have enabled Outlook access for this mailbox but the mailbox owner won't be able to configure Outlook client to work with the mailbox, because 'Show in address book' option is disabled. We recommend that you enable 'Show in address book' option for mailboxes with Outlook access.
Note: If Outlook client was already setup to work with this mailbox, it is safe to disable 'Show in address book' option.
  • The following message is displayed as a hint under the View setup info link for Outlook access (the link is shown when Outlook access is enabled):

Warning: 'Show in address book' option should be enabled to successfully setup Outlook client.

Note: If Outlook client is already set up, the disabled Show in Address Book option makes no problems for further work using Outlook client.
