Managing Data Source Names

Data Source Name (DSN) is the logical name used by Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) to refer to the drive and other information required to access data. The name is used by Internet Information Server for a connection to an ODBC data source, such as a SQL Server database.

Creating a DSN will let your system know where the database is located, so that you can refer to the database with a simple name, rather than the entire path.
