Managing Mailbox Aliases
You can create one or more email addresses having different mail names that would point to the same mailbox. This functionality enables you to appear to have an address on one domain, yet the mail will be forwarded on to your real mail account.
However, the email address created with the mailbox automatically becomes the Primary Email address. This address will be displayed in the 'From' field of email messages sent from Open-Xchange. You cannot delete the Primary Email address, but only switch it to another mailbox alias.
If @mail webmail is used for mailbox with different login and primary email address, then primary email address has to be specified in Reply To settings in @mail.
To create an email alias:
- Click the Add button.
- In the open filed, enter the mailbox alias name and select the domain that it will be used on.
Important: The current implementation of the qmail service does not allow the using of special characters in the local part of the email addresses except dots that are not the first or last character, dashes and underlines. The using of other special characters is restricted in order to avoid conflicts, since symbols like '&' or ':' are widely used by the source routing syntax and UNIX shell commands.
- Click on Submit.
To change the Primary Email address:
- In the Primary Email address area click the Change button.
- Using radio-buttons, select the new email address to become the Primary one.
- Click Submit.
Note: In case your subscription includes Open-Xchange webmail access, all actions with mailbox alias addresses (creating, changing, deleting) will be synced with Open-Xchange Global Address Book.
