Configuring Domains Rejection Rules

Domain rejection option allows declining registration of particular domain names before 'search domain' engine and fraud check. In other words, domain rejection rules allow configuring own list of reserved domains.

For example, you can forbid registering domain names that include names of well-known trade marks, or offensive words.

Another illustrative example of domain rejection rules use is catching and rejecting registration of domain names used internally in the system:

For example, you allow customers to register subdomains in your zone, let it be provider.com. At the same time, a record in your zone declares a particular subdomain used for service purposes, for instance, mail transport. If customer unintentionally orders your service subdomain, such an order may be accepted, especially if you provide subdomains in your zone via the Dummy plug-in. Please keep in mind that Dummy plug-in treats a domain name as available if there is no subscriptions in Billing this domain is associated with. In such a situation, it makes sense to configure explicit rejection for all domain names used for service purposes in the system.

Domain rejection rules are configured in two steps:

  • Specify a domain name to be rejected.
  • Associate it with TLD(s) or zone(s). Note that it is possible to associate only zones that configured in the Domain Zones Settings list under Domain Manager.

To configure domains rejection rules:

  1. Open System > Settings > Domains > Rules. The list of domain rejection rules (if any) is displayed. To edit a rule, click on its name. To delete a rule, select the box next to a rule name and click Delete.
  2. To add a rule, click Add New Domain Name Rule. The Domain Name Rule. Add form is displayed.
  3. Fill out the form:
    • Enter the rule name into the Rule Name field. This name is for reference purposes only, it does not affect a rule functionality.
    • Enter regular expression that specifies a domain name (before zone or TLD) into the Reg Exp field.
    • Select the rejection rule for the pattern from the Reg Exp Result set:
      • Matches. If this option is selected, and regular expression matches, a domain is rejected. If regular expression does not match, a domain is passed for further registration. Using this option, you can reject a particular domain names.
      • Does not match. If this option is selected and regular expression matches, a domain is allowed for registration. If regular expression does not match, a domain is rejected. Using this option, you can reject all domain names except for a particular one(s).
    • Select how the rule is to be applied to domain zones from the Apply To list:
      • None. Do not apply the rule, this option same as rule deactivation.
      • All Domain Zones. Apply rule to all zones without respect to zones selected for the rule.
      • Selected Domain Zones. Apply the rule only to the zones selected for the rule.
      • Excepted Domain Zones. Apply the rule to all zones except for the ones selected for this rule.
  4. Click Save.
