Using Exchange Mail Server in Relaying Mode
CloudBlue Commerce provides you with the ability to use a single SMTP namespace on two or more different mail systems. You can register external Exchange domain in CloudBlue Commerce and switch its type to Internal Relay. Thus, all mail sent to mailboxes created in CloudBlue Commerce control panel will be handled by CloudBlue Commerce, whereas mail destined to mailboxes created in external mail system will be relayed to external Exchange mail server.
For example, you own a domain named “example.com” that is hosted somewhere in the Internet on Exchange server with the mailbox user1@example.com. In CloudBlue Commerce you register the same “example.com” domain and switch its type to Internal Relay. Then you create mailbox user2@example.com using CloudBlue Commerce Control panel. In this case the first mailbox (user1@example.com) will be served by the external mail system and the second one (user2@example.com) – by CloudBlue Commerce. As a result, you have different mailboxes in different mail systems but based on the same domain name.
Such functionality is mostly employed in cases when 2 organizations have to work under one brand but on different mail systems. These two organizations find together through a merger or acquisition and would like to share the SMTP namespace for an undefined period of time until both messaging systems are migrated to a single Hosted Exchange organization.
To be able to use such configuration, perform the following steps:
- Register your domain in CloudBlue Commerce.
- Configure MX records of the domain so that they point to CloudBlue Commerce Exchange server.
- Contact your CloudBlue Commerce Hosting Provider with a request to use an external domain in a relaying mode. You will have to give your Provider the domain name, which namespace you wish to share, and the hostname or IP address of the external mail server.
- After you received a confirmation from Provider, in CloudBlue Commerce control panel go to Hosting > Configuration & Administration > Sites & Domains.
- Click on the name of the registered domain and move to the Exchange tab. By default the Accepted Domain Type is set to Authoritative.
- Click on the Edit button. On this page you can switch the Accepted Domain Type.
- Set the radio button to Internal Relay Domain and click Submit.
Now your domain works in a relaying mode.
