Adding Resource Categories

When planning categories for your resources, keep in mind that the use of resource categories is:

  • Provide taxation information for resources sales.
  • Show resources in store sorted by categories. Resources that are not included in a category, are not shown in store.
  • Configure resources dependencies by setting parent and child categories. Such dependencies allow setting resources up-sale. In this case, a child resource can be purchased only if a so-called enabling resource from a parent category is selected for purchase.

Resources subjected to same taxes should be grouped in one category. Never group together resources taxed differently. These two rules will provide you with a minimum number of categories. You can subdivide them further so that resource category would indicate not only taxation of its members but also some technical aspects.

Be extra careful if you sell your services to customers in multiple countries: resources, taxed similarly in one country, can be taxed differently in another country. Resource category is global and does not depend on location where sales take place. You may prefer having smaller categories to avoid problems with international sales.

To add a resource category:

  1. Go to Products > Resources and select the Resource Categories tab. The list of resource categories (if any) appears on the screen.
  2. Click Add New Resource Category. The adding new resource category dialog window is displayed. Fill out the form:
    • Type a category name into the Name field.
    • Click next to the Parent Resource Category field. From the window that opens, select the category that will define parent resources. This option is not required, use it only if you want to set the resource category as up-sale to a parent one.

Note: The resource category you are adding, will be available as the included one on the Resource Categories tab of this parent resource category.

    • Type a free-form description of the category into the Description field.
    • Click next to the Tax Category field. From the window that opens, select a tax category. Tax category is a group of sales taxes applicable to resources sales. These taxes are filtered through customer's tax zone (which is a group of sales taxes, operating on particular territory) and thus taxes of the sales order are determined. Tax category is optional. Empty tax category would mean that resources of this category are not taxable.

Note: You can assign resource category to respective tax category from the tax category side (Resource Categories tab).

    • Webshop Display Type: Define how resources of the resource category will be displayed in UX1 for Customers and how customers can choose them:
      • Default: customers can choose resources by selecting check boxes.
      • Radio Button: customers can choose resources are chosen by selecting radio buttons.
    • Input an integer into the Sort Number field. This parameter defines the sorting order.
  3. Click Add to finish adding new category.
