Configuring Fraud Filter
A fraud filter defines the order of fraud checks application, threshold values of fraud points (when reached, an order is suspended), and types of orders to be checked.
It is possible to add as many fraud filters as needed. However, there are two basic types of filters:
- Before Order Placement. Checks orders before placement, namely, right after a customer clicks Place Order in End-Customer and Reseller Marketplaces. Depending on check result, allows order placement or not. In case an order is suspended, the filter displays a message. Filters of this type check orders placed in End-Customer and Reseller Marketplaces only.
- After Order Placement. Checks placed orders. In case an order is considered as fraudulent, it is either put into the Waiting for Approval or Suspected status. Provider can manually approve order, or resubmit it for fraud screening, or mark order as fraudulent. Filters of this type check orders placed in End-Customer and Reseller Marketplaces and in customer's or provider's control panels.
To add a fraud filter:
- Open System > Settings > Fraud Screening > Filters. The list of fraud screening filters (if any) appears on the screen.
- Click Add New Fraud Filter. The adding new filter wizard starts.
-
Specify general settings and threshold values:
- Enter a name the filter will be referred by into the Name field. We recommend entering as descriptive name as possible since it will facilitate fraud filters management.
- Select the type of filter application from the Type group of options:
- Before Order Placement – the filter will be used to check orders before placement.
- After Order Placement – the filter will be used to check placed orders.
-
Enter the threshold value of fraud points enough to suspend an order and assign the Waiting for Approval status into the Manual Approval Threshold (points) field.
Note: The manual approval threshold will not be applied if the filter type is to Before Order Placement.
- Enter the threshold value of fraud points enough to suspend an order and assign the Suspected status into the Fraud Threshold (points) field.
-
Click Next. The list of order types is displayed. Select which types of orders are to be checked by the filter:
- Mark order type(s) to be checked by selecting the check box next to order type name(s).
Note: It is possible to add same type of order to several filters of the same type. However, only one of such filters can be activated at a time.
- Click Next. The list of configured fraud rules is displayed. Select rules to be used in fraud filter:
- Choose rule(s) to be used by selecting the box next to rule(s) name(s).
- If you want to set a particular order of rules application, enter the order number(s) of rule(s) into the Order field(s).
- If the order of rules application does not matter, leave the default values.
- Define a frequency of this rule run by selecting/deselecting the Run on First Payment only check box(es):
- First Payment – only the payment of the first Sales Order is checked; it makes sense to use this setting when configuring the rule for account validation.
- Every Payment – each payment created in scope of every order is checked (as it can be created separately and assigned to an Order). It makes sense to use this setting when configuring the rule for credit cards, or for huge sum payments with manual approval, and so on.
- Choose rule(s) to be used by selecting the box next to rule(s) name(s).
- Click Add Rules.
