Configuring Tax Calculation via EZTax

To set up tax calculation with BillSoft EZTax, take the following steps:

  1. Set up connection with EZTax at System > Settings > Taxation > BillSoft EZTax. Provide your registration data obtained from EZTax:
    • User ID.
    • Password.
    • Company Identifier.
  2. Create the taxes that will represent tax groups/levels tax details in customers’ invoices. For that, open System > Settings > Taxation > Taxes, and click Add New Tax. The following taxes can be created:
    • USF Tax
    • CRF Tax
    • Federal Tax
    • State Tax
    • County Tax
    • Local Tax
    • Unincorporated Tax
    • Other Tax

    For the above taxes, any rate and any level can be set: these taxes will only be used as names of the groups/levels the taxes are grouped into when received from EZTax.

  3. Create tax category mapping: associate Billing tax categories and order detail types with EZTax transaction types and service types. The mapping is configured at System > Settings > Taxation > BillSoft EZTax > Tax Categories Mapping by clicking the Add button. Please contact your BillSoft account manager for details.
  4. Create a taxation rule at System > Settings > Taxation by clicking the Add button:
    • Select the BillSoft EZTax as taxation method.
    • Specify the tax zone and tax category.

    Thus, you define that the taxes for specific products purchased by customers registered in certain locations will be calculated by EZTax.

  5. Test the taxation rule you have created by clicking the respective button at System > Settings > Taxation. The list of all withheld taxes for a test sales order is displayed in the Test Order Details section of the test result screen.
  6. In case the daily billing process is unable to calculate taxes for an order with EZTax, it will not be created. Such orders can be viewed System > Settings > Taxation > BillSoft EZTax > Failed Requests.

EZTax Support for Resellers

Billing supports delegation of EZTax service to the resellers that are going to use this service for taxation. On-boarded resellers can either use their own account in EZTax (by default), or choose the provider's one. The ability to use the provider's account in EZTax can be enabled in reseller account settings in PCP, Operations > Resellers.
