Hardware Requirements for PowerDNS Servers

For the PowerDNS service, prepare virtual or physical servers that meet the following hardware requirements:

Server Names	LINDNS01, LINDNS02
Description	PowerDNS servers
Density	60,000 DNS zones and 300,000 DNS resource records per server
Quantity	A minimum of 2 DNS servers is required.
OS	Any operating system supported by PowerDNS
Software	OS only
CPU	2 cores (2.4 GHz or higher)
RAM	2 GB
Disks	Array 1:
	OS and software	- 2 x 36 GB, SCSI, RAID 1
Disk Partitioning	Array 1:
	/ – 4 GB	- for the OS and software
	2 x RAM size – 4 GB	- swap
	the remaining space	- for DNS zone data
IP Addresses	Private: 1 Public: 1

Important:

1. We recommend that you place your DNS servers on different networks.

2. Some top-level domain (TLD) zones may have specific network requirements for DNS servers. For example, in the .DE and .FR TLD zones, DNS servers must be placed on different networks. We recommend taking this into account when preparing your servers.
