Discounts and Promotions

To raise your sales and encourage your existing customers to work with your company, you can use marketing tools such as discounts and promotions. Generally, a promotion refers to different marketing tactics persuading a potential customer to purchase a product. For example, a reduced-price offer, "buy two items and get the third one for free", coupons, promotional flyers and so on. A discount is typically a reduction of an original price of services. For example, a new-year's discount and so on.

CloudBlue Commerce supports both promotions and discounts, but promotions in CloudBlue Commerce are a bit different from the commonly used term in marketing.

A promotion in CloudBlue Commerce is a special price for service plans and resources valid during a promotion period.

A discount in CloudBlue Commerce is the same as in general understanding.

Differences Between Discounts and Promotions

  1. A promotion has a priority of applicability over a discount. This means that if you have both a promotion and a discount in the system for a particular order, the promotion will be applied while the discount is ignored.
  2. You can define order types for which a promotion will be applied but you cannot define order types subject to a discount.
  3. A discount is termless while a promotion is valid during the promotion period.
