Discounts

A discount is a price reduction for selling a specific service plan to a specific customer. To define a discount, you need to specify a customer (or a customer class) and a service plan to which a discount is applicable. A customer (or a customer class) cannot be listed in two discounts for the same service plan. A discount is applied to sales, billing, renewal, and cancellation orders as long as the discount definition is kept in Billing. If the discount definition is deleted, the next billing for subscriptions will be done at the regular price.

To apply a discount, you need to specify the following:

  • To whom (a customer or customer class) the discount will be applied and for what service plans or particular resources it will be applied. For example, you can create a 5% discount for the customer A for purchasing the VPS Hosting service plan, and you can create the same discount for an additional public IPv4 address.

    OR

  • A promo code/one-time promo code, which gives a customer a discount on service plans or the particular resources. For example, you can create a 10% discount for customers who provide a promo code when ordering the VPS Hosting service plan, and you can create the same discount for the additional backup space.

The schemes below demonstrate how to configure a discount by account/customer class and by promo code/one-time promo code.

There are following types of discounts:

  1. Discount by PromoCode – such discounts are applied only when their promotion code is entered in sales (billing, renewal) order. They have the highest priority – if such a discount is applicable to an order, discounts of other types are ignored.
  2. Discount by Account or Customer Class – such discounts are applied to customer accounts or to customers that belong to a discounted customer class. This discount is applied if a promo code is not applicable.
  3. Discount by One-Time Promo Codes – these discounts are based on one-time use promo codes, which are unique to each vendor (a provider or a reseller).

A more specific discount has priority over a less specific one. The discount priority follows (in the order of appearance):

  1. Discount by a submitted promo code.
  2. Discount for a certain customer and a certain plan period.
  3. Discount for a certain customer and a certain plan.
  4. Discount for a certain customer, regardless of the plan.
  5. Discount for the customer class, to which the customer belongs, and a specific plan period.
  6. Discount for a customer class and a specific plan.
  7. Discount for a customer class, regardless of the plan.

Discounts on resources are given to customers when they order additional amounts of resources. Such discounts are calculated as a percentage of the resource price defined in the service plan resource rates.
