Adding an A Record

A record, also called the "address record", is the most important part of the DNS record. It is used to link your domain to its corresponding IP address.

To add the A record, perform the following operations:

  1. On the Domains page, click the domain where you wish to add a new record and then open the DNS tab.
  2. Select the DNS Records subtab.
  3. Click Add New DNS Record.
  4. Select the A DNS record type and specify the following DNS record properties:
    • In the Domain field, enter the string to map to the web server. For example, if your domain name is provider.com, entering cp will make the fully qualified domain name cp.provider.com. If you are defining the NS record for your main domain, leave the available field blank.
    • In the IP address field, enter the IP address that the fully qualified domain name will be mapped to. You can get this IP address using any ping utility.
    • TTL (Time To Live): set how many seconds will elapse before the record is refreshed in the DNS cache. To set the TTL, choose between Default TTL, defined by your provider, or Custom. In the latter case, you must specify your own TTL for the record being created.

Note: The TTL parameter can be edited later.

  5. Click Finish.
