Creating a New Restriction Rule

To create a new DNS record restriction rule, perform the following actions:

  1. Go to Services > Domains and switch to the DNS tab.
  2. Open the Restriction Rules subtab.
  3. Click Add New Restriction Rule. Fill the form:

    In the General area:

    • Record type. Select A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, or NS record type using drop-down box.
    • Restriction pattern. Enter the direct record (for example, 192.168.0.191) or use patterns to specify the records range. The following patterns can be used in record entry. "?" meaning any single symbol. "*" will replace any number of any symbols in the pattern. Square brackets "[ ]" can be used to set any range within specific symbols.

      Example of DNS record restrictions:

CNAME: web*.example.com – this restriction denies actions with CNAME records pointing to web*.example.com.

A: 40.50.60.* – this restriction denies actions with A records pointing to any IP address from 40.50.60.0/24 network.

MX: mx*.provider.com – this restriction denies actions with MX records pointing to mx*.provider.com.

    • Active. Mark the check box to activate the rule immediately after finishing.
    • Restrict addition of matching records. When enabled, this option will not allow customers to add records defined by the pattern.
    • Restrict removal of matching records. When enabled, this option will not allow customers to remove records defined by the pattern. The corresponding managing options will be unavailable.
    • Restrict modifications (and deactivation) of matching records. When enabled, this option will not allow customers to edit or to deactivate records defined by the pattern. The corresponding managing options will be unavailable.

In the Error Message area, specify the message that will be displayed to customers when they attempt to create the DNS record restricted by this rule. Using radio buttons, select the default message (DNS Record data matches some of restriction rules. Creation is prohibited.) or enter the custom message in the provided area. If there are several language locals installed in CloudBlue Commerce, a separate error message can be specified for each of them.

Note: If you plan to create several rules and set a single error message for all of them, leave this field empty now. When all the rules are created, set the error message to multiple rules at once.

  4. Click Submit to finish creating the rule.
