Creating New Reverse DNS Zones

To create a reverse DNS zone in CloudBlue Commerce, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to Services > Domains and open the DNS tab.
  2. On the Reverse DNS Zones subtab, a list of existing reverse DNS zones is displayed (if any).
  3. Click Add new reverse zone.

Specify the reverse DNS zone parameters:

    • IP Address/Network Mask. Enter the IPv4 or IPv6 address of a CloudBlue Commerce object (for example, VPS) for which you want to configure reverse DNS. Then enter the network mask into the next field.

Note: IPv6 reverse DNS zones are supported only for BIND DNS server.

    • Email of responsible person. Enter an email address of a responsible person, customers can forward their question to.
    • Create PTR records for Operations objects automatically. Select this check box to enable automatic creation of PTR records for CloudBlue Commerce objects.

If an IP address of the provisioned VPS fall into the properly configured reverse DNS zone, a PTR record that points to the host name of this VPS is automatically created.

Automatically created PTR records have a strong relevance with objects they are created for, for example, if a host name is changed, the PTR record is modified accordingly. If the object is removed, the PTR record is removed.

    • First nameserver/Second nameserver. Specify which name servers will be used to host the reverse DNS zone.
  4. Click Submit to complete reverse DNS zone creation.

During initial reverse DNS zone configuration, you can create one or several PTR zones for all the IP addresses you plan to use in CloudBlue Commerce. This configuration enables auto creation of PTR records for every CloudBlue Commerce object.
