Configuring Nodes for Providing OS Templates

As a rule, you define the nodes to use for providing an OS template when registering the template in CloudBlue Commerce: either by configuring the High watermark and Low watermark parameters or by specifying the required nodes manually. In addition, when you register a new node in Cloud Infrastructure Automation, the Cloud Infrastructure automatically:

  • Discovers all OS templates installed on the node and registered in Cloud Infrastructure Automation
  • Configures the node as "ready to provide" the discovered OS templates

This process looks like the following:

  1. You register in the Cloud Infrastructure a virtualization node that has one or more OS templates installed.
  2. During the registration, the Cloud Infrastructure checks the node for the installed and cached OS templates.
  3. Once it finds any cached OS templates, the Cloud Infrastructure checks if these templates are already registered in Cloud Infrastructure Automation.
  4. The Cloud Infrastructure marks the node as "ready to provide" for the templates that match those in Cloud Infrastructure Automation.

At any time, you can configure the set of nodes for a registered OS template by doing the following:

  1. Go to Services > Cloud Infrastructure > OS Templates in the Cloud Infrastructure group.
  2. Click the name of the template you want to configure the set of nodes for.
  3. Switch to the Virtualization Nodes tab, and then click Edit.
  4. Clear the checkboxes of the nodes you do not want to provide the template any more, and click Submit.

When deciding on the set of nodes for an OS template, make sure that the High Watermark and Low Watermark parameters are properly configured for the template. Otherwise, the Cloud Infrastructure may automatically install the template on the nodes you do not want to use for providing the template.

Note: For more information on setting the High Watermark and Low Watermark parameters, refer to the OS Template Registration Parameters.
