Configuring VPS Virtual Server Template

Cloud Infrastructure Automation includes one sample VPS virtual server template – Default Local Virtual Server Template. You can use it or create your own virtual server template.

A virtual server template defines:

  • A virtualization type (CT or VM) of a VPS.
  • Operating systems, available for installation in a VPS by customers. These OSs will be available for selection when a customer buys or recreates a VPS. You can use default OS templates or prepare your own OS templates to be used in the virtual server template.
  • Applications, available for installation in a VPS by customers. These applications will be available for selection in the CCP.
  • A step by which each of the main VPS hardware resources can be increased or decreased in the online store (needed only for configuring custom VPSs).
  • A type of storage for a VPS data – local or cloud. Local – data are stored on a local disk space of a VPS. Cloud – data are stored in Virtuozzo storage cluster. To learn more about cluster, refer to the Cloud Infrastructure Deployment Guide >> Setting Up Infrastructure > Setting Up Virtuozzo Storage Cluster (Optional).

To create a new virtual server template:

  1. In Operations control panel, go to Services > Cloud Infrastructure > VPS Server Templates.
  2. Click Create New Template. Follow the steps of the Virtual Server Template Creation Wizard:

    1. General & Hardware. Specify the template name (it will be used as a name of the respective resource type), the slider step for each of the VPS resources and the type of storage for the Disk Space resource. When ready, click Next.
    2. OS Template(s). Choose OS template(s) available to a customer when purchasing new virtual servers, based on this server template. Specify Default OS Template, which will be chosen for the VPS in the online store by default. When ready, click Next.
    3. Application Template(s). Choose application template(s) that will be available for installation in customers' virtual servers. When ready, click Next.
    4. Summary. Review your settings and click Finish.

Important:
1. Note that once there is at least one virtual server created using this virtual server template, the template can no longer be modified.
2. Be aware that you should not include OS templates based on different virtualization platforms (Virtuozzo 7 or Virtuozzo 6) in one virtual server template at a time. The scenario, when a customer during a server recreation has a choice to switch to OS template based on other virtualization technology than initially selected, should be disabled, otherwise the server recreation fails.
