Permissions, Updates

Permissions

You can specify the operations that the VPS owner will be able to perform with Plesk in the customer control panel:

  • Restart Plesk – allows a customer to restart Plesk.
  • Update the current version – allows a customer to update Plesk.
  • Change administrator's password – allows a customer to change Plesk administrator's password.
  • Upload license keys – allows a customer to upload license keys for Plesk.

Note: If a VPS owner has access to a VPS with the administrator rights, then it will be possible to perform all these operations regardless of permissions.

Updates

You can configure the following options regarding Plesk updates installation:

  • Install updates automatically. Select this option if you want to keep this Plesk installation up-to-date: new Plesk micro updates will be downloaded and installed automatically. If you clear this checkbox, only the latest available Plesk version will be installed, but you will need to install micro updates manually. Be aware that security updates will be installed automatically even if this checkbox is cleared.
  • Update pre-installed Plesk to the latest minor version. Select this option if you use a VPS Hosting service template based on the OS template with pre-installed Plesk and you want to install all the latest Plesk micro updates during the provisioning. If you clear this checkbox, the pre-installed Plesk version will not be updated.

There are two variants of updating Plesk instances:

  1. You have selected the Install updates automatically option when you created Plesk configuration in the provider CP. In this case, Plesk updates will be always installed automatically with the new update release. This automatic updates option is applied to all Plesk instances of the particular Plesk configuration.
  2. You haven’t selected the Install updates automatically option and the permission to manage “updates” was enabled. In this case, there is a way to install Plesk updates via the customer CP. A provider or customer can log in to the customer CP, select the VPS in the left menu, click Manage Plesk, then click Apply Available Updates. Only this particular Plesk instance will be updated.

Note: If a customer has root access to a VPS, he or she can update Plesk independently.
