Setting Up Firewall Rules

This functionality is available only for servers that are created within CI Hosting subscription. You can create firewall rules for a server to filter traffic passing between the server and other computers on the network. The default policy for a newly created server is to allow all incoming traffic. Once you set up the first firewall rule, the policy changes, and all incoming traffic is denied except for the sources defined by the firewall rule.

To set up a new a firewall rule for your server:

  1. Go to Services > Cloud Infrastructure > Virtual Servers in the Cloud Infrastructure group.
  2. Find the server whose configuration you'd like to change and click it.
  3. Switch to the Firewall tab, and then click Add.
  4. Set the parameters for the firewall rule:
    • Rule Name: specify a name for the rule.
    • Remote IP: specify IP addresses to allow traffic for these IP addresses to and from the server. You can apply the rule to all IP addresses, a range of IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses), or a specific IP address.
    • Protocol: specify a protocol suite for allowed connections.
    • Remote Ports: specify remote ports for allowed connections.
    • Local Ports: specify local ports for allowed connections.
  5. Click Add to create the rule.

To revert to the default policy (that is, to allow all incoming traffic), delete all the existing firewall rules for the server.
