A License Can Now Be Upgraded Even If the Source and Target License Limits Do Not Match

In this application version, if a Microsoft 365 subscription is switched from one service plan to another service plan, the license in the first service plan is able to be upgraded to the license in the second service plan, and the source and target license limits do not match (N and M), the following events happen in the Microsoft cloud:

  1. A cloud subscription with the new license is created. Its license limit is set to the source license limit N.
  2. The old license is replaced with the new license for N cloud users.
  3. The cloud subscription with the old license is suspended.
  4. In the cloud subscription with the new license, the license limit is set to the target license limit M. If the target license limit M is less than the source license limit N, the missing licenses (N - M) are made inactive for some of those N cloud users.

Note: Upgrades are supported for a limited number of licenses. You must use your product catalog to obtain information about possible upgrades from one license to another license.
