Managing Reserved Instances and Savings Plans Discount Sharing

AWS Discount and Credit Manager allows you to deactivate discount sharing in Reserved Instances and Savings Plans for any accounts in the organization. When doing this, the discounts for unused Reserved Instances and Saving Plans will not be shared between the accounts that did not pay for the Reserved Instance or Savings Plan. Instead, the cost-benefit will be obtained by the provider. Optionally, when using this feature, you can specify if the customers and resellers will keep a percentage of the cost-benefit or not. To do this, complete the following steps:

Important: The shared Reserved Instances and Savings Plans discounts must be enabled at the AWS Organization level for this feature to work. For additional details see AWS documentation.

  1. Go to the Config tab.

  2. To deactivate discount sharing in Reserved Instances/Savings Plans, turn on the Reserved Instances Unsharing or Savings Plans Unsharing option.

  3. If you, as a provider, wish to keep the cost-benefit of unused Reserved Instances or Saving Plans, you can set the Customer Cost % and Reseller Cost % fields to 0, in the Reserved Instances and/or Savings Plans sections, as required. If the Customer's cost -benefit percentage is set to 100%, this will have the same effect as turning off the corresponding Reserved Instances/Savings Plans Unsharing option.

If the cost-benefit is applied to accounts that did not pay for the Reserved Instance or Savings Plan and the Reserved Instances/Savings Plan Unsharing option is turned on, the MSRP will be applied to such accounts, rather than the Reserved Instance or Savings Plan discounted price. By doing this, the provider will receive the cost-benefit. However, as specified above, the provider can optionally share this cost-benefit with customers or resellers by specifying a cost-benefit percentage in the corresponding fields.

On the other hand, if the cost-benefit was only applied to the account that paid for the Reserved Instance or Savings Plan, no actions will be performed when the Reserved Instances/Savings Plan Unsharing option is turned on. This means that cost-benefit for such accounts will always be applied to them, even if this option is enabled.
