Standard Discounts vs Discount Split

There are several options you can choose from when configuring discounts for AWS SPP Standalone and AWS Consolidated. In the table below you can see the options available:

AWS SPP Standalone
Creating a discount rule in the Discounts tab with specific services (or service) specified as a condition.

Creating a discount rule in the Discounts tab and choosing a PDA/EDP/SPP automated service selection as a condition.

Note: The PPA/EDP automated service selection is only available for AWS Standalone.

Creating a Refund Split rule in the Refund Split tab, selecting an EDP, PPA, or SPP split.

Note: The PPA/EDP refund split is only available for AWS Standalone.

When creating a discount rule (the first two points in the above table) you specify a percentage discount on the customer cost (absolute %). However, when creating a Refund Split Rule you specify a split percentage (relative %) to distribute the total refund amount among your resellers or customers. For example, let us say that the customer cost is $100, and the associated refund is -50. If you specify a refund split of 10%, this will represent a discount of $5 dollars for the customer or reseller.

Below you can see an example:

Important:
- While split rules can coexist with standard discounts, creating discounts and split rules for the same AWS account and with the same conditions will result in duplicate benefits for customers and/or resellers.
- If an AWS account has standard discounts configured in the Discount Manager and those discounts are no longer valid once a customer signs a PPA contract, the account should be excluded from the relevant discount rules in the AWS Discount Manager.

Discount vs Split Comparison Chart

Discount Rules Refund Split for PPA, EDP and SPP
Available for any discount type. Available for PPA, EDP and SPP.
Easier to configure based on AWS PPA contracts, since PPA discount is specified as a percentage of the customer charges. Works by applying a multiplying factor to AWS refund negative lines.
The percentage to specify is based on customer cost/charges. The provider must decide the percentage split to be applied to all the refund lines matching the PPA, EDP or SPP condition.
Requires manual changes if the percentage discounted by AWS is modified. Percentage to specify is based on PPA,EDP or SPP refunds.
