Switching Subscriptions from the Hosted Exchange 2016 Module to the Hosted Exchange Application

This section describes how to switch subscriptions from the Hosted Exchange 2016 module to the Hosted Exchange application.

There are two procedures for switching subscriptions:

  • Switching Subscriptions by Swapping Resources. In this procedure, Hosted Exchange 2016 module resources are swapped with Hosted Exchange application resources at the system level so that all Hosted Exchange 2016 module service templates, service plans, and subscriptions are transformed into Hosted Exchange application ones.
  • Switching Subscriptions by Changing Service Plans. In this procedure, Hosted Exchange 2016 subscriptions are switched from their source service plans (which contain only Hosted Exchange 2016 module resources) to target service plans (which contain Hosted Exchange application resources).

If you want to avoid making significant changes in your system and sending your customers notifications during migration, you should use the procedure described in Switching Subscriptions by Swapping Resources. If you want to have full control and flexibility during migration, you should use the procedure described in Switching Subscriptions by Changing Service Plans.

Warning: You must use only one of the procedures on your CloudBlue Commerce installation. Performing both procedures within the same CloudBlue Commerce installation is not supported.

In the table below are the pros and cons of the procedures.

Procedure Pros Cons
Changing service plans
  • The procedure can be performed gradually. For instance, you can switch Hosted Exchange 2016 subscriptions one by one.
  • A single set of Hosted Exchange application resources can be used for all existing Hosted Exchange resources of the Hosted Exchange 2016 module.
  • Migration from the Hosted Exchange 2010/2013 module to the Hosted Exchange 2016 module, and migration from the Hosted Exchange 2016 module to the Hosted Exchange application can be performed in parallel.
  • Since Hosted Exchange 2016 subscriptions are upgraded during the procedure, upgrade orders are created by the system, which then sends customers notifications.
  • You need to create Hosted Exchange application service templates for every existing Hosted Exchange 2016 module service template.
  • You need to create Hosted Exchange application service plans for every existing Hosted Exchange 2016 module service plan.
  • The procedure requires significant manual labor when configuring all necessary service templates and service plans.
Swapping resources
  • Hosted Exchange 2016 module resources are swapped with Hosted Exchange application resources at the system level so that all Hosted Exchange 2016 module service templates, service plans, and subscriptions are transformed into Hosted Exchange application ones. As a result, no upgrade orders are created by the system and customers do not receive any notifications.
  • You use existing Hosted Exchange 2016 service templates and service plans. In other words, you do not need to create additional service templates and service plans to perform the procedure.
  • The procedure affects all Hosted Exchange 2016 subscriptions. For instance, the last step of the procedure is executed for all existing Hosted Exchange 2016 subscriptions.
  • For every Hosted Exchange resource of the Hosted Exchange 2016 module, you need to create a separate set of Hosted Exchange application resources.
  • Migration from the Hosted Exchange 2010/2013 module to the Hosted Exchange 2016 module, and migration from the Hosted Exchange 2016 module to the Hosted Exchange application can be performed in parallel, but before performing the last step of the migration to the Hosted Exchange application, in which resources are swapped, the migration to the Hosted Exchange 2016 module must be completed.

Notes:

1. To see a comparison between the Hosted Exchange module's resources and the Hosted Exchange application's resources, refer to Appendix: Comparison of Application and Module Resources.

2. To notify your customers about the provisioning of Hosted Exchange services, you can use the Welcome e-mail - Hosted Exchange notification template. To do this, update its contents as you need and specify it in your Hosted Exchange service plans in the Notification About Service Provisioning setting.
