Creating License Types

This section describes how to create license types for offers.

You must create a separate license type for each offer that you are going to provide.

Important: You must create only one license type of an offer per application instance. Do not create several license types for the same offer for the same application instance.

When creating license and add-on types for offers, take into account the parent-child relations of the offers: an add-on offer has parent offers, which, in turn, may have their own parent offers, and so on, up to top-level offers; a customer tenant can be subscribed to an add-on offer only if the customer tenant has subscriptions to all necessary ancestor offers of the add-on offer, starting from a parent offer and ending with a top-level offer. If you need to provide your customers with an add-on offer, you must create not only an add-on type for the add-on offer, but also license and add-on types for all necessary ancestor offers of the add-on offer.

To create a license type, perform the following actions:

  1. In the Provider Control Panel, go to Services > Applications and select the APS Instances tab.
  2. Select the required Office 365 application instance.
  3. Select the License Types tab.
  4. Click New License Type.
  5. Specify the following parameters:

    • License Name: The name of the license type. We recommend that you use offer names from your product offer catalog.
    • Offer ID: The offer identifier of the required offer. You must use offer GUIDs from your product offer catalog.
    • Trial Offer ID: The trial offer identifier of the required offer. This field must be specified if the offer has the trial offer identifier. You must use offer GUIDs from your product offer catalog.
    • Provisioning ID: The provisioning identifier of the required offer. You must use provisioning identifiers from your offer catalog.
    • Can be assigned to users: This defines whether the offer can be assigned to users (Yes or No). Set the parameter to No for the 'Yammer Enterprise', 'Intune', 'Office 365 Exchange Online Protection', and 'Enterprise Mobility Suite' offers. Set the parameter to Yes for other offers.
    • Description: The description of the license type.

Using the Add to Possible Upgrades and Remove from Possible Upgrades buttons, specify the list of possible upgrades for the license type. You must use your product offer catalog to obtain information about possible upgrades from one offer to another offer.

  6. Click Add.

For example, create the following license type:

  • License Name: Office 365 Business Premium
