Including a Resource in a Resource Category
Important: Resource categories with Webshop Display Type = Radio Button can include only non-quantity-based resources only one unit of which can be purchased (for example, "premium support" can either be ordered or not ordered: customers cannot choose several units of premium support - it is either included or not included with their service).
A resource can be included in a resource category in two ways:
- From the resource side. The category is assigned to resource from resource properties.
- From the resource category side. The resource is added to the category resources list from category properties.
Both ways have their benefits. The first way is suitable when it is required to add one or several single resource to different resource categories. The second way may come in handy when it is required to add several resources in one resource category. In this section we will consider both methods.
The way how resources are composed in a category defines the order of resources purchase in the store and the way resources are shown in the store:
- Create a resource category without any up-sales. In this case, resources will be shown in store grouped under a category.
- Add a parent category. In this case, the resources included into a child category can be purchased only together with resource(s) from a parent category. This allows configuring a kind of resources up-sale. Resources will be shown in store in the form of a tree. Resources from child categories can be selected only after a resource from a parent category is selected.
- Include sub-categories to a resource category. Actually the same as above, but the inclusion of resource categories is performed from the parent resource category side. This way is useful when it is required to include several resource categories to a resource category.
Note: Resources structure in a category, that is, parent resources, up-sales, and so on, affects ONLY resources presentation in store. If a customer purchases resources from control panel upgrade wizard, all resources are shown and available.
To assign a resource category to a resource:
- Go to Products > Resources. A list of available resources appears on the screen.
- Select a resource you want to assign the category to. To do this, click on the respective link in the ID or in the Name column. Selected resource properties appear.
- Click Edit at the bottom of the screen. The editing resource dialog window is displayed.
- Click next to the Resource Category field. From the window that opens, select a resource category to assign.
- Click Save to confirm changes.
