Adding a Discount
To add a discount:
- Open Products > Marketing > Discounts.
- Click Add New Discount. Complete the form:
- Name: Type a new discount name.
- Status: Select the current discount status:
- Inactive (recommended): Select this option until you fully configure the respective Customer Classes, Product Group, Service Plans, Subscription Periods, and Resources (see below). When you complete the configuration, you can activate the discount using the Activate button at Products > Marketing > Discounts.
Active: This option is not recommended during the discount creation.
Warning: Use caution when selecting this option! Select this option only if you want to use the discount immediately after creation when selling, billing, or renewing subscriptions. Active discounts apply immediately to the respective Customer Classes, Product Group, Service Plans, Subscription Periods, and Resources (see below). However, you can deactivate discounts, when necessary, with the help of the Deactivate button at Products > Marketing > Discounts.
- Type: Select one of the following options:
- Discount By Promo Code: such discounts are applied only when their promotion code is entered when placing a sales, billing, or renewal order. They prevail over discounts of the other types with the same priority: if such a discount is set to apply to an order, discounts of other types with the same Application Priority value are ignored.
- Discount By Account/Customer Class: such discounts are applied to customer accounts or to customers that belong to a discounted customer class. This discount is applied if promo code is not applicable.
- Discount By One-Time Promo Codes: such promotions are based on one-time use promo codes, which are unique per vendor (a provider or reseller). See Managing One-Time Promo Codes for more detail.
- Promo Code Mask (appears on the screen when Discount By Promo Code is chosen in the Type field; the field is required for discounts by a promotion code): Define a promo code using a regular expression. For example, promo[0-9]: with such a regular expression you can give different customers different promotion codes (promo1, promo5 and the like).
- Discount Rate (%) (required): Enter a discount rate (in percent).
- For All Plans (optional): Select the check box to make the discount applicable to all service plans which you offer.
- For All Resources (optional): Select the check box to make the discount applicable to all resources which you offer.
Product Group (optional): To apply the discount to a product group, choose the product group from the pop-up list.
Important: A discount can be applied to only one product group. If you want to apply the discount which you are creating only to the chosen product group and not to all the service plans and resources which you offer, do not select For All Plans and For All Resources.
Note: The value of the Promo Code Mask field must be specified as a regular expression. For example, if you want to define the exact string
5percent
then define Promo Code as^5percent$
. The expression must be no longer than 2000 symbols. The supported standards for regular expressions are POSIX Basic and POSIX Extended. Descriptions of these standards are available in the Internet (for example, here). - Click Save to finish adding a new discount.
