Performing the Initial Resource Configuration

When you create an application instance, you have the option to perform the initial resource configuration for this application instance. If this option is chosen, the Product Configuration Manager (PCM) creates the base set of resources and service templates for that application instance. To learn more about this option, see Creating a Microsoft 365 Application Instance.

Important: Performing the initial resource configuration for an existing Microsoft 365 application instance directly through the PCM is not supported.

This base set of resource and service templates comprises the following:

  • Resources

    • Async operations
    • Office 365 Cloud User
    • Office 365 Domain
    • Office 365 Global Settings
    • Office 365 Subscription Provisioning
    • Office 365 Tenant
    • Office 365 Tenant Contact Data
    • Office 365 User
    • Total points sold
    • Total seats sold
  • Service templates

    • Microsoft 365 (Recurring Licenses and Add-ons)
    • Microsoft 365 (Software Subscription Licenses)
    • Microsoft 365 (Perpetual Software Licenses)

Note: To learn more about these resources and service templates, see Creating Microsoft 365 Resource Types and Creating Microsoft 365 Service Templates.

After the initial resource configuration is completed for your application instance, you must perform these additional steps:

  1. For each service template, add the aps_defaults_o365 service parameter:

    1. Go to Products > Service Plans and select the Service Templates tab.
    2. Click the service template that you need.
    3. Select the Service Parameters tab and click Add New Parameter.
    4. Specify the following properties:

      • Parameter ID: The aps_defaults_o365 value must be specified.
      • Name: The Microsoft 365 Subdomain value must be specified.
      • Description: Leave this empty.
      • Value Type: The String value must be chosen.
      • Required: Leave the checkbox empty (No).
      • Ask on Order placement: Select the checkbox (Yes).
    5. Click Save.
  2. The application has its own wizard for linking domains with the Microsoft 365 service, so the step "Select Domain" in the system wizard "Buy New Service" is unnecessary. If you want to remove this step, remove the DomainID service parameter from each Microsoft 365 service template.
  3. Include the PBA resource in the service template that is intended for recurring licenses and add-on recurring licenses (see Creating the 'PBA' Resource Type for details).

Note: If you need integration between the application UI for CCP v1 and Billing, you must include the PBA resource type. This integration enables customers to adjust limits on recurring licenses and upgrade these licenses in CCP v1 on the application screen at Microsoft 365 > Licenses. If you do not need this integration, do not include the resource type in this service template.

  4. In the service template that is intended for software subscription licenses, configure the Destroy Service on Cancel property:

    1. In the list of service templates, click the service template.
    2. Select the General tab.
    3. Click Edit.
    4. Set Destroy Service on Cancel to Yes (select the checkbox).
    5. Click Save.

After you perform these steps, you can use the PCM to configure resources for licenses, as described in Configuring Resources for Recurring Licenses and Add-ons and Configuring Resources for Software Subscription Licenses and Perpetual Software Licenses.
