Preparing for Migration

Before you start migrating from Windows Shared Hosting to WebHosting Plesk, you need to do the following:

  1. Install and configure the WebHosting Plesk module for Odin Automation, as described in WebHosting Plesk Provider's Guide > Deploying the WebHosting Plesk Module.
  2. Add Windows-based service nodes and install license keys for them, as described in WebHosting Plesk Provider's Guide > Adding IIS Service Nodes.
  3. Register the Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database servers used by the Windows Shared Hosting module in WebHosting Plesk, as described in WebHosting Plesk Provider's Guide > Adding Database Nodes. Pay attention to the case in which the database host names are written. They are case-sensitive. That is, if you had a database host name MyExampleDatabase.Example.com, be sure to register the database server with WebHosting Plesk exactly in this case: MyExampleDatabase.Example.com. Also, make sure that network connection can be established between WebHosting Plesk service nodes and database servers used by Windows Shared Hosting.

After that, change the settings of the target WebHosting Plesk service template: Go to Provider Panel > Products > Service Templates > template name > Database Hosting tab > Edit, and select either Any shared database server or Selected shared database server, and specify the SQL server that you registered earlier in this step.

If you do not register the database servers with WebHosting Plesk before migration, MySQL will be registered automatically, but users will not be able to create new databases on them. Microsoft SQL Server will not be registered automatically and migration will not be possible.

  4. If subscriptions in Windows Shared Hosting use exclusive IP addresses and these IP addresses must remain exclusive after migration, set up a new range of exclusive IP addresses in Odin Automation and assign them to WebHosting Plesk nodes, as described in WebHosting Plesk Provider's Guide > Allocating IP Addresses to Service Nodes. The number of new exclusive IP addresses must not be less than the number of IP addresses used in Windows Shared Hosting.
  5. Configure service templates and service plans.
  6. Make sure that connections to the port 29443 are allowed on Plesk service nodes, and that Plesk service nodes are accessible from the Odin Automation management node.
