Creating Zaps

A Zap is an automated workflow that helps platforms to communicate and execute specific tasks. A Zap consists of the following steps:

  1. A trigger step that specifies the event that occurs in the source platform. It is identified with the field name When this happens.
  2. An action step that specifies the corresponding action to perform in the target platform when the event takes place in the source platform. It is identified with the field name Do this.
  3. A search step (optional) that can find the corresponding data in the target platform when a trigger occurs in the source.
  4. Conditional steps (optional) that run different actions based on defined conditions. Paths are created based on the if-then logic, where the required action is only executed if a specific if-then condition is fulfilled in the source.
  5. Filter steps (optional) are added to a Zap to restrict it to run only when specific conditions are met. Unlike paths, filters are not configured based on the if-then logic.

For more information, refer to Zap Components.

There are two ways you can create Zaps:

Create Zaps from template

Templates are preconfigured Zaps based on common use cases, published in Zapierfor easy integration.. Though most of the fields in the template are auto-populated, you may change the field data as required.

To create a Zap from a template, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to Zapier.
  2. On your Dashboard, in the search bar, search for the platform app for which you want to create the Zap.
  3. On the platform integration page, scroll down to view the list of preconfigured Zap templates.
  4. To create a Zap from a specific template, click the respective TRY IT button.

Create New Zaps

You may choose to create a new Zap if the available templates do not suit your business requirement.

To create a Zap from scratch, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to Zapier.
  2. On your Dashboard, click MAKE A ZAP.
  3. On the Zap configuration page, complete the following steps to create a Zap as required:
  1. Provide a relevant name for the Zap. For seamless integration between two platforms, configure two workflows that facilitate the forward and the return flow respectively. Under Name your Zap, provide a name for the Zap to identify it as a forward or a return flow in an integration scenario.
  2. Set a trigger. Under When this happens, configure a trigger in the source app.
  3. Set an action. Under the Do this section, configure an action in the target app.
  4. Set Paths and Filters. Select conditional paths and search filters to customize Zap triggers and actions as required.
