How to Add New Software Subscription Licenses and Perpetual Software Licenses on an Existing Installation of the Application

This section describes how to configure resources of new software subscription licenses and perpetual software licenses for an application instance that already has resources for some licenses.

For example, you need to add the following licenses:

  • SQL Server Enterprise - 2 Core License Pack - 1 year (a software subscription license)
  • Visio Professional 2019 (a perpetual software license)

Note: You can use the Edit Configuration mode of the Product Configuration Manager (PCM) to add new software subscription licenses and perpetual software licenses. See Resource Configuration Through the Product Configuration Manager for details.

To configure new software subscription licenses and perpetual software licenses for your application instance, perform the following actions:

  1. Obtain the latest product catalog. You will use it in further steps to obtain necessary information about software subscription licenses and perpetual software licenses.
  2. Create a separate software license type for each new software subscription license or perpetual software license. To do this, use the instructions in Creating Software License Types.

For example, create the following software license types:

    • SQL Server Enterprise - 2 Core License Pack - 1 year

      • Name: SQL Server Enterprise - 2 Core License Pack - 1 year
      • Product ID: DG7GMGF0FKZV
      • Product Type: Software subscription
      • SKU ID: 0004
      • Target Segment: Commercial
    • Visio Professional 2019

      • Name: Visio Professional 2019
      • Product ID: DG7GMGF0F4K0
      • Product Type: Perpetual software
      • SKU ID: 0002
      • Target Segment: Commercial
  3. Create the corresponding Microsoft 365 Software Subscription License or Microsoft 365 Perpetual Software License resource type for each new software subscription license or perpetual software license. To do this, use the instructions in Creating 'Microsoft 365 Software Subscription License' and 'Microsoft 365 Perpetual Software License' Resource Types.

For example, create the following Microsoft 365 Software Subscription License and Microsoft 365 Perpetual Software License resource types:

    • SQL Server Enterprise - 2 Core License Pack - 1 year

      • Software license type instance: SQL Server Enterprise - 2 Core License Pack - 1 year
    • Visio Professional 2019

      • Software license type instance: Visio Professional 2019
  4. In Billing, add each new resource to the corresponding Microsoft 365 resource category.
  5. In Operations, add each new Microsoft 365 Software Subscription License resource type to the Microsoft 365 (Software Subscription Licenses) service template. Similarly, add each new Microsoft 365 Perpetual Software License resource type to the Microsoft 365 (Perpetual Software Licenses) service template. To do this, complete these steps:

    1. Go to Products > Service Templates.
    2. Select the required service template.
    3. Select the General tab and click Deactivate.
    4. Select the Resources tab and click Add resources.
    5. Select the new resources and click Submit.
    6. Set the resource limit to 0 and click Submit.
    7. Select the General tab and click Activate.
  6. For each new Microsoft 365 Software Subscription License resource, create a separate service plan. To do this, use the instructions in Creating Service Plans for Software Subscription Licenses.

For example, create the following service plan:

SQL Server Enterprise - 2 Core License Pack - 1 year

    • General

      • Service Template: Microsoft 365 (Software Subscription Licenses)
      • Service Terms: Microsoft 365 (Software Subscription Licenses)

  7. For each new Microsoft 365 Perpetual Software License resource, create a separate service plan. To do this, use the instructions in Creating Service Plans for Perpetual Software Licenses.

For example, create the following service plan:

    Visio Professional 2019

      • Service Template: Microsoft 365 (Perpetual Software Licenses)
      • Service Terms: Microsoft 365 (Perpetual Software Licenses)

        • Units / Included Units: 0
        • Units / Max Units: -1 (unlimited)
        • Units / Min Units: 1
    • Upgrades: empty

Important: You must take the actual value for the Full Refund Period (days) setting from your Microsoft Partner Agreement (MPA).

  8. In Billing, add the new service plans to the corresponding Microsoft 365 sales categories.
  9. In Billing, perform the synchronization of your online store.
  10. If there are resellers that resell Microsoft 365 resources related to your application instance, delegate the new service plans to each reseller account. To do this, use the instructions in Configuring Resellers (see the steps about delegating service plans). After the changes, run synchronization for the corresponding reseller service template and its service plan.
